Magpies Mistaken for Mockingbirds - A Conversation

Artspace NZ hosts this event organised and facilitated by Govett-Brewster Art Gallery. Barry Schwabsky & Simon Rees will engage in conversation about the current state of affairs in art, publishing, and geo-politics; and whether any hope remains for critics to impact usefully the way we think, discuss, and engage with those realms of life and culture.
New Yorker Barry Schwabsky is a poet and writer who is art critic for The Nation and contributes to London Review of Books and New Left Review. Schwabsky is also the international reviews editor of Artform, an author and editor of Phaidon’s Vitamin-P books, and the series editor of Lund Humphries Contemporary Painters Series.
Simon Rees is the director of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, and is on the editorial advisory board of the Lund Humphries series, a former managing editor of art/text magazine, and was the long-time Eastern European correspondent for Frieze.
