Tahi: Kōrero with Mark Harvey and Adrienne Wong

On the opening night of Guy Ngan: Either Possible or Necessary, Mark Harvey will kick off his project Whakamāui: Recovery Positions. Together with Adrienne Wong, Mark Harvey talks through his project on the development of the Grey's Avenue area in front of Artspace's building.

Adrienne Wong, primarily a painter, is intrigued by the juxtaposition of nature and the architectural. Locations hold memories and meaning. In her drawings, these locations are minimized into monochromatic objects and are devoid of the usual visual cues, suggesting memory and movement within fields of spatial ambiguity. Areas of colour, sometimes in the shapes of people the artist has a personal connection to, or in shapes of natural forms such as the intersection of tree branches in a canopy, or the sharp curves of a rock, combine to urge the viewer to enter a world of half-recalled memories, dreamlike uncertainty and the unclear transition time between day and night. Adrienne is also a graphic designer and illustrator. Originally from New Zealand, she studied Visual Arts at the University of the Arts London. Her art has been selected for exhibitions in the US and UK including Georgetown Art Hop, Assistance League of Houston Celebrates Texas Art, The Hunting Art Prize, The Lawndale's Big Show, and The Celeste Art Prize UK.
