Artist Aden Messer (Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand) describes his practice as intimate documentation of his life as an openly-proud transgender man.
Aden's current body of work To Be A Man, operates as an ever-evolving project, which seeks to confidently portray an honest, lived experience - as a trans man within society today. The artist asserts, however, that their documented perspective is essentially personal, and not, a universal representation or portrayal, of every life, as a trans person in present-day society.
Their residency offers viewers a personal photographic collection of past and present imagery, and videography - Aden's lived experience; the real life of a transgender man.
