4/4: New Writers Announcement 2019

Artspace Aotearoa has engaged four emerging arts writers to collaborate with the participating artists in 4/4. Each has been paired with one of the artists and invited to contribute a text which, through interaction and communication with the artist and their work, is an expression of their own creative interests and written practice. Artspace Aotearoa will publish these texts in a volume that will be launched on Saturday 9 November, the final day of the exhibition.

Owen Connors is a poet and artist working in queer craft, occult poetics, and prophecy. They are co-editor of hard press. They live in Auckland. Connors will be working with Anh Trần’s project, And then, one day, my love, you come out of eternity.

Jade Kake is a design and writer of Māori and Dutch descent. Her tribal affiliations are Ngāpuhi (Ngāti Hau me Te Parawhau), Te Whakatōhea and Ngāti Whakaue. She is interested in Indigenous cultural landscapes, Māori-futurism, and decolonisation. She lives and works in Whangārei. Kake will be working with Xander Dixon’s project, Sharing Directions.

Abbra Kotlarczyk is a Naarm/Melbourne based artist, writer, editor and sometimes curator. She maintains a research-based practice that is articulated through modes of conceptual art making and writing of criticism, poetry and prose. Her practice is hinged on visual and linguistic inquiries that often take place trans-historically through expanded notions of queerness, publication, citizenry and embodied poetics. Kotlarczyk will be working with Daniel John Corbett Sanders’ project, Intimate Atmospheres.

Jane Wallace is a writer and art historian, mostly researching sculptural or installation based practices in Aotearoa. She is interested in collective memories, forgettings, retellings and imaginations. Wallace will be working with Severine Costa’s project, And the sky slowly seeping through.
